Salonn Community Guidelines

Salonn is built for thoughtful salons: small groups, high-signal conversations, and serious exploration of ideas. These Community Guidelines explain what is and isn't okay on Salonn and how we expect people to behave.

These Guidelines apply to all content and behavior on Salonn, including posts, messages, VR rooms, live salons (audio, video, and VR), profiles, names, images, audio, video, avatars, and any future features.

By using Salonn, you agree to follow these Guidelines in addition to our Terms of Service and Privacy Policy.

1. The Culture We're Trying to Build

Salonn is not meant to be generic social media. The goal is:

• High-quality discourse – thoughtful posts, considered replies, and curiosity over dunking.
• Respectful disagreement – strong debates are welcome; personal attacks aren't.
• Focused spaces – each salon or room can define its own topic and vibe.

Salons and hosts may set stricter rules (e.g., longform only, no memes, no off-topic politics). When you join a salon (text, live audio, or VR), you're expected to respect those local norms in addition to these global rules.

Low-effort trolling, "drive-by" insults, and pure performative outrage are not aligned with Salonn's purpose and may be moderated even if they don't fit neatly into a classic "hate/harassment" box.

2. Respectful Behavior & Harassment

You must not:

• Harass, bully, or stalk individuals or groups, including via repeated replies, DMs, or joining their salons to heckle them.
• Use slurs or dehumanizing language about protected or vulnerable groups.
• Make targeted insults about someone's appearance, disability, identity, or personal circumstances.
• Send unwanted, repeated messages or @mentions after someone has made it clear they don't want to engage.
• Encourage others to pile on, dogpile, or engage in brigading behavior.

In VR and live salons, harassment also includes:

• Intentionally invading someone's personal space with your avatar (e.g., "standing" inside them, following them around in an obviously unwanted way).
• Using gestures, animations, avatar movements, or room props in a sexual, threatening, or degrading way toward others.

We may act on patterns of behavior, not just individual posts.

3. Violence, Threats, and Extreme Harm

Strictly prohibited:

• Credible threats of violence or harm against any person or group.
• Celebrating or encouraging violence, terrorism, or organized hate.
• Content that seriously encourages self-harm, suicide, or eating disorders.
• Sharing extremely graphic violence (e.g., videos intended to shock, traumatize, or glorify harm).

You may discuss sensitive topics (e.g., mental health, self-harm, war) in a supportive or analytical way, but not to promote or glamorize harm.

4. Hate, Discrimination, and Protected Groups

You may not attack people on the basis of things like:

• Race, ethnicity, national origin
• Religion or lack of religion
• Gender, gender identity, or sexual orientation
• Disability or serious disease
• Immigration or refugee status
• Caste or similar social category

Banned behavior includes:

• Calls for exclusion, segregation, or removal of rights of protected groups
• Slurs, epithets, or dehumanizing comparisons (e.g., calling people "vermin" or "animals")
• Content that praises or denies genocides, ethnic cleansing, or similar atrocities

Policy/ideology debates are allowed. Targeted hate toward people is not.

5. Elections, Civic Processes, and Misinformation

We want serious civic discussion without harmful manipulation. You may discuss politics, laws, elections, and public figures, but you must not:

• Intentionally share false information about voting or civic processes, such as:
  • Wrong dates, locations, or methods for voting.
  • False requirements (e.g., "You must own property to vote").
• Try to discourage or prevent others from voting through deception, intimidation, or targeted disinformation.
• Pretend to be an election authority, government agency, or official poll worker.
• Coordinate campaigns that aim to mass-report or silence users solely due to their lawful political views.

If you're sharing uncertain or contentious claims about elections, be clear about your sources and avoid presenting speculation as fact.

6. Authenticity, Impersonation, and AI / Synthetic Media

We care about users knowing what they're looking at and who they're talking to.

6.1 Impersonation & Misrepresentation

You must not:

• Pretend to be another real person, public figure, organization, or Salonn staff without clear parody/satire labeling.
• Use names, avatars (including VR avatars), or bios that are likely to make people reasonably think you are someone else you're not.
• Mislead others about your role on Salonn (e.g., falsely claiming you're a moderator, admin, or official partner).

Satire and parody are allowed, but they must be clearly recognizable as such.

6.2 AI-Generated & Synthetic Media

AI tools and synthetic media are powerful and welcome on Salonn, but they can't be used to deceive or harm.

If you post AI-generated or heavily synthetic content, you must label it clearly when:

• It realistically depicts real people (or could reasonably be mistaken as real), or
• It depicts news events, political figures, or public institutions, or
• It could reasonably change someone's beliefs about a real person or real-world event.

You may not:

• Create or share deepfakes that depict real people in sexual situations, non-consensual acts, or other highly sensitive contexts.
• Use synthetic media to smear, defame, blackmail, or harass real individuals.
• Fabricate "evidence" (fake screenshots, fake documents, fake recordings) intended to mislead people about real events or real persons.

A simple label like "AI-generated", "synthetic image", or "fictional scenario" near the content is usually sufficient.

7. Intellectual Property & Content Rights

Only upload or share content if you have the rights to do so.

You may not:

• Upload content you didn't create unless:
  • It is licensed for your use (e.g., open license, explicit permission), or
  • Your use qualifies under applicable copyright exceptions (like fair use) in your jurisdiction.
• Share pirated media (movies, shows, games, books, paid courses, etc.).
• Post links that primarily exist to distribute pirated or unauthorized copies.
• Remove or alter copyright notices or watermarks with the intent to pass others' work off as your own.

By uploading content to Salonn, you confirm that:

• You have the rights or permissions required to post it, and
• Your content doesn't infringe the rights (including privacy and publicity rights) of others.

8. Nudity, Sexual Content, and Minors

We are cautious about sexual content and extremely strict about anything involving minors.

You must not:

• Share sexual or erotic content involving anyone under 18, or anyone who appears to be under 18, in any context. This includes drawn, animated, or AI-generated depictions.
• Sexualize minors in text, images, audio, VR avatars, or video (including "jokes" or "fantasy").
• Share non-consensual intimate images or threats to share them (e.g., revenge porn).
• Post pornographic or explicit sexual content where the primary purpose is arousal.

In VR, this includes:

• Avatars or room setups whose primary purpose is explicit sexual content.
• Using avatar positioning, gestures, or props to simulate non-consensual sexual contact.

Limited, non-exploitative discussion of sexuality, relationships, and health is allowed, especially in educational or academic salons, provided it is handled respectfully and does not sexualize minors.

9. Spam, Scams, and Platform Integrity

To keep Salonn usable and trustworthy, you may not:

• Run bots or automated systems that post, follow, message, or scrape without our permission.
• Post repetitive or irrelevant content primarily to promote links, products, or services.
• Use Salonn primarily as an advertising channel without clear value to the salon.
• Run scams, phishing, or deceptive offers (e.g., "get rich quick," "guaranteed returns," fake investment tips with hidden agendas).
• Misuse reporting tools to harass others (e.g., mass-reporting just because you dislike someone's opinions).

If you're promoting a product, service, or your own work, be transparent and avoid misleading claims.

10. Professional Advice & Representing Credentials

Salons will often discuss health, finance, law, and similar topics. That's fine—but:

• Do not present yourself as a licensed professional (doctor, therapist, lawyer, financial advisor, etc.) unless you actually are licensed and qualified.
• Do not claim or imply that your advice is personalized professional advice when you are not acting in that capacity.

Even if you are licensed, you should:

• Avoid treating Salonn as a substitute for a formal professional relationship.
• Avoid giving individualized diagnoses, legal opinions, or investment recommendations based solely on limited context.

As a platform, Salonn does not provide professional medical, legal, financial, or other regulated advice. Any decisions you make based on content here are your own responsibility.

11. Privacy and Personal Information

To protect user safety and privacy, you must not:

• Doxx or expose private personal information (home addresses, phone numbers, non-public emails, government IDs, financial details, etc.) about others.
• Share private communications or intimate media without consent.
• Encourage others to stalk, harass, or track someone offline.

You may discuss public figures and public information, but drawing a target on someone's private life is not allowed.

12. Live Salons, VR Rooms & Real-Time Sessions

Live salons and VR rooms are core to Salonn: real-time audio, video, and VR avatar conversations. Everything above applies to live salons plus the following:

12.1 Behavior in Live & VR Salons

All rules on harassment, hate, sexual content, self-harm, elections, and misinformation apply equally to live/VR sessions.

You must not:

• Use live salons to shock or intimidate (e.g., sudden graphic content, extremely loud audio, flashing imagery intended to cause distress).
• Intentionally invade another user's personal space with your avatar, follow them around after they've clearly indicated they want distance, or use gestures/props to target and harass.
• Participate in live salons while driving or in other situations where distraction could reasonably cause harm.
• Use VR in unsafe physical environments (e.g., near stairs or objects where you could reasonably injure yourself or others).

You are responsible for keeping yourself physically safe while using VR (e.g., checking your surroundings, using straps/guardian boundaries where applicable).

12.2 Recording and Sharing

• You must not secretly record or stream others outside Salonn without their knowledge and any consent required by law in your jurisdiction.
• Hosts must clearly disclose if a live salon is being recorded or saved.
• Even with our rules, we cannot fully control what other users do; by joining live salons or VR rooms, you understand that others might record or capture content, and you should share only what you're comfortable with in that context.

12.3 Host Responsibilities

Hosts and moderators in live salons and VR rooms are expected to:

• Enforce these Guidelines and any additional salon rules they've set.
• Act quickly on obvious violations (mute, remove users, or end the session if necessary).
• Avoid using their tools to bully, humiliate, or retaliate against participants.

12.4 Content Rights & Safety

• Anything you say or show in a live salon or VR room is treated as User Content, and the same rights, licenses, and restrictions in our Terms of Service apply.
• Live salons are dynamic and may be lightly or not-at-all pre-moderated. You may encounter content you find incorrect, offensive, or low-quality. Use the report tools and leave rooms that don't align with your needs.

13. Enforcement & Reporting

We may enforce these Guidelines in a number of ways, including:

• Removing or restricting specific pieces of content.
• Limiting certain features (posting, commenting, joining or hosting live salons/VR rooms, messaging).
• Temporarily suspending or permanently banning accounts.
• In very serious cases, notifying relevant service providers or authorities where required by law.

Enforcement may depend on context, severity, and past behavior. We may act even if behavior is not explicitly listed above but is clearly abusive, dangerous, or fundamentally incompatible with the purpose of Salonn.

You can help by:

• Reporting content, salons, or users you believe violate these Guidelines.
• Blocking users you don't want to interact with.
• Respecting salon-level rules set by hosts and moderators.

14. Changes to These Guidelines

As Salonn grows and adds new features (including new VR modes and tools), we may update these Community Guidelines.

When we make material changes, we'll take reasonable steps to let you know (for example, in-app notices or updated timestamps). Your continued use of Salonn after changes take effect means you agree to the updated Guidelines.

If you strongly disagree with an update, you may stop using Salonn and close your account.
